This day is a commonly overlooked holiday (especially if you do not have the day off). Although off topic for this blog, now is a good time as ever to mention one of my favorite books. The Last Voyage of Columbus by Martin Dugard is a book that when I describe it to people, I almost always end with the statement that truth is stranger than fiction. His final voyage is a remarkable tale, filled with elements you usually find in fiction like sword fights, political intrigue and jealousy, mutiny, and even humorous stories of survival.
This book more than any other had me saying out loud “wow!” and marveling at the remarkable final journey of this man. It blends elements from Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Flies and Indiana Jones. But its all true. Check it out on Audible.com or at the local library if you want to listen to it on a trip. Highly recommended!.
