I have to give credit to sports talk radio guy Mike Bell from 790 The Zone who today mentioned that he almost stopped at the Cowpens National Battlefield to see “where Mel Gibson beat Tarleton”, but it was too far off I-85. Like most Americans, Bell exclaimed, he preferred his national battlefields just off the highway.
Funny stuff right there.
Thanks, although I’ve been told that Gibson’s “The Patriot” movie is a mix of Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse, and a few inaccuracies. Although I am usually a stubborn stickler for detail, unfortunately, except for problematic youtube snippets, I haven’t been able to revisit the full “The Patriot” movie to tease out the truth for myself, as like most Gibson movies, with the exception of Apocalypto, it’s got a good guy getting gruesomely gored. However, I’ll try to visit Cowpens myself this next fall. Please thank Mike for the “it’s off the hightway tip,” and Happy Thanksgiving!
You should check out the anniversary celebration January 18 – 19!
Have you seen the HBO John Adams?
Have a great Thanksgiving Bill and thanks for checking out the blog as usual.
Thanks for letting me know about the anniversary celebration of my favorite Rev War battle. Unfortunately, I can’t make a visit in January and will hope that somebody puts up an on-line video of the celebration.
Have seen the John Adams HBO video and think it’s great! Am sorely tempted to purchase it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!
